TV Documentary on British Royal Family Sold in North America

The Royals, a U.K. reality show about the British Royal family has secured TV deals across the globe with Foxtel taking it for Australia, DirecTV for Latin America, and Channel 5 inking a deal for British rights.
Content Television, a division of Content Media Corporation, inked the deals for Back2Back Productions’ The Royals.
The six-part documentary provides an in-depth look into the world of the British Royal Family, from scandals, pets and funerals to weddings, teens and babies — including the recent birth of Prince George.
Alongside Channel 5, which will debut The Royals in a primetime slot later this year, further TV sales include Globosat (Brazil) and with Chinese broadcaster LIC. MTV (Finland), Sky TV (New Zealand) and Channel 8 (Israel) have also picked up the show for TV broadcast, while ABC in Australia and BFS in U.S. and Canada have picked up home entertainment rights.
Content Television distributes The Royals as part of its funding and production deal struck last year with U.K.-based independent banner Back2Back Productions, led by David Notman-Watt.
Content Television & Digital president Greg Phillips said: “The world continues to be gripped by the British Royal Family – as proved recently by the global media attention surrounding the birth of Prince George – and this timely six-part series is quickly becoming a stand-out hit in our factual portfolio.
Phillips noted that the deal with Back2Back has allowed Content “to be involved from the very outset in the development of The Royals.”
Cherry Yeandle, acquisitions executive, factual for Channel 5 added: “The series takes us on an un-missable journey through the highs and the lows, controversy and intrigue of Royal life to give us a truly fascinating picture of the world’s most famous dynasty.”
Back2Back Productions managing director, Notman-Watt said: “The global appetite for all things monarchy means this timely co-funded series will now be seen across the world.”
